Amethyst provides flexible on-line learning courses for beginners and those with more experience, using both Learndirect courses and other supplementary courses and materials. The four main subject areas we offer training in are:

Vocational - Short duration courses

Forklift Truck - Theory and practical training, including licence on both Reach and Counterbalance trucks (non-learndirect)

CSCS Cards - Construction Health and Safety, (non-learndirect)

Food hygiene - Certificates in Food Hygiene.

NVQ level 2 Qualifications

National Vocational Qualifications or NVQs are qualifications which demonstrate proficiency at work. The training is mainly 'on the job' and the NVQ assessment recognises an individual's performance at work with a nationally recognised qualification.

We offer Level 2 and some Level 3 NVQs in the following:

Customer Service
Information Technology (or 'Computers')
Health and Social Care
Business Improvement Techniques
Business and Administration
Business Management
Team Leading
Warehouse and storage

Currently we are providing many of these NVQs free of charge to candidates who do not already have a Level 2 qualification. Check with an adviser to see if you are eligible.

To take the NVQ you will need to be in relevant employment or be in a suitable voluntary placement. We may be able to help you to find a voluntary placement if necessary.

Skills for Life - English and Maths

Would you like to improve your work based communication skills or your application of number in work enviroment? Maybe you would like to help your children with their homework, or feel more confident filling in forms and sorting out money. Learndirect can help you brush up on your word and number skills - and once you get started you'll find that it's easier than you thought. Once you've improved your word and number skills, you might want to show what you have learnt by getting a Maths or English qualification. Perhaps you need a Level 2 in English or Maths for University entrance or to become a Classroom Assistant. Certificates in Adult Numeracy and Literacy are available through learndirect - they are nationally recognised qualifications available up to the same level as GCSEs.
